Join us on Sunday, September 13, 2026, for the 6th Annual Martin McGuinness Peace Foundation Chieftains Walkas we come together to honor Martin McGuinness's extraordinary legacy and continue the conversation for a united Ireland built on peace, reconciliation, equality, and mutual respect.
This year, we are honored to welcome Martin's daughter, Gráinne Hargan, who will travel from Ireland to walk with us. Her presence makes this year's event especially meaningful as we celebrate Martin's life and the lasting impact of his work for peace and reconciliation.
The day will begin with registration and an opening celebration featuring traditional Irish music, remarks from Foundation representatives and invited guests, and an opportunity to gather with friends from across the Irish-American community.
At 10:00 a.m., participants will set off along the Hudson River Greenway, walking from Pier 25 to Pier 45 and back, carrying forward Martin's vision of a peaceful, united Ireland.
Please note: Due to ongoing construction at the Irish Hunger Memorial, this year's event will begin and end at Pier 25.
Irish America has long played an important role in supporting peace, justice, and progress in Ireland. As the conversation around constitutional change continues to grow, the Chieftains Walk provides an opportunity to come together in friendship and solidarity while demonstrating support for the peaceful and democratic pursuit of Irish reunification.
Whether you have participated in previous walks or will be joining us for the first time, we invite you to walk with us as we honor Martin McGuinness's legacy and support the ongoing work of the Martin McGuinness Peace Foundation.

On September 13th, 2025, we came together in New York City for the 5th Annual Chieftain’s Walk, carrying forward the vision and legacy of Martin McGuinness and raising our voices for a United Ireland.
The day kicked off with lively entertainment from Jacinta and Timmy, whose traditional Irish music lifted spirits and set the tone. Inspiring words from Marty Glennon and Ciarán Quinn, Sinn Féin Representative to North America, reminded us why we walk: to complete Martin’s vision of a united Ireland built on peace, justice, and equality.
Irish America has always played a central role in Ireland’s struggle for peace and justice. Once again, this year’s walk showed that we are ready to finish the journey. Unity is no longer a distant aspiration—it is within reach.
We are closer than ever before. Now is the time to make our voices visible, normalize unity, and show the world the Ireland we believe in: one island, one nation, united at last.
